Do you like your accent? Do others like your accent?
When you are speaking your target language, is it so important to you to lose your accent? Have you had feedback about what your accent sounds like?

I ask this because I am charmed by accents! I always figured my own accent was so uninteresting. Whenever I hear another variation of an English accent or an accent from different language altogether, I just love it. For this reason, I would like to progress to learn my target language, but I think I would enjoy the fact that someone thinks I sound interesting to them too.

So far, my Ukrainian coaches have not let on what they think of my accent, only that I'm understood. When I was learning German, apparently I sounded French, though I have no idea why! My years of French were long behind me when I was in school. :)

What are your thoughts about having an accent or hearing other people's accents?

And since yet another P.S. would would have been completely ridiculous here a link to a combined sample of my other languages. 😂

Hope your curiosity is satisfied @Mumtaz =)

Marlana, I couldn't sleep so I was happy to find an interesting discussion to check and I read most of the comments :)

I would like to mention Barbara's recording because even to my ears as a non-native English speaker, I
could hear the difference and the confidence in her voice compared to the other recording she shared in
the community couple of years ago. Sometimes I really wish to hear a difference between something I
recorded in the past and now to know if there's any improvement.

Here's my recording in English and any feedback is more than welcome:

My second recording is in Spanish, and yeah I like to embarrass myself sometimes ;)

Of course I would like to believe that I'm understood, yeah in my dreams. So if anyone is interested in the
text I'm reading to be able to understand the story, please let me know and I would share the paragraphs I
read here :D Any feedback or whether or not I have a certain Spanish accent would be really appreciated.

I believe a demo would be better even in my case, so here it is: https://voca.ro/lF06QNJ22Yo

I have deliberately not included Hindi, Bengali and Urdu because there aren't many who would understand those. Besides, native level languages are just that - a piece of cake.

Marlana:
It’s always a pleasure to read your discussions!

Bárbara:
Wow, that’s a huge improvement from the last time I heard your English! Your pronunciation is perfectly intelligible, and sorry to contradict you, but I’ve got a good ear and your accent most definitely is charming.

Barbara, When I read your feedback I was extremely happy like a fool, why? Because you understood what I was reading ;)
At this point I just aspire to be understood because I didn't focus on my reading yet. I'm the type who learn through grammar first then focus on the reading and speaking parts. I'm really grateful regarding pointing out my weak consonants, this way I know what to work on at least when I start improving my reading skill.
Thank you very much for your encouraging words :) Pollito Tito also says hola :D

Alberto, this was my first time to post something in Spanish, I didn't really have the guts to do it before other than the Spanish tongue twisters I posted last year on italki ;)

Those tongue twisters were way easier for me than to read that children story! Thanks to your and Barbara's feedback now I feel inspired and encouraged, I really appreciate you taking the time to listen to me and yay now I know I could always consider reading stories for children in the nearby library, that's a plus :')
