Hey Tom!
Stick with it.
Numerous people post on Italki wanting native speakers to converse with them.
In the last four days alone, I've responded to 13 different posts. I tell them I'm a native English speaker from the U.S., here's my Skype address, contact me and let's talk about anything- I don't care about your level! I'm not even looking for a language exchange at this moment- so they would get 100% of my time in English. That's still not enough to motivate them (BTW- I'm super friendly and have no issues connecting with people in the real world!).
I haven't had one answer!
After probably 35-40 of these , "here I am, let's talk" contacts over the course of about 6 months, I have connected with a couple people. and they are becoming friends. I do it to meet new people.
You will eventually find someone who wants to connect, and when you find the right person, it will be well worth your efforts! Maybe skip the language hacking section for now?
Best of luck.
See ya!
