A mí me encanta las expresiones "Es la leche" o "de perdidos, al río" porque son graciosas de traducir al inglés pero no tienen sentido la traducción literal. Ignoro si estas expresiones se dicen en otras zonas de habla española. 

Es la leche ("It´s the milk") significa que algo es increible (podríamos sustituirlo por "awesome", aunque a veces suene muy raro). Por ejemplo:

" Me gusta U2, pero Queen son la leche!", (I like U2, but Queen are awesome)
"La tortilla de patatas es la leche" (Spanish omelette is awesome)
o "María es la leche, siempre se está quejando" (María is "awesome/unbelievable" she is always complaining)

De perdidos al río (En España en modo de broma decimos "From lost to the river", aunque sabemos que no es correcto). Significa que si todo está perdido (en una situación dificil) hagas algo loco o impensable. La frase se dice que viene de las batallas de la antiguedad, cuando el ejercito rival te acorralaba contra un río... tenías dos opciones : 1) dejar que el enemigo te mate 2) tirarte al río (So, if the battle is lost.... you should dive to the river)

Well, there are many slang or 'streetwise' phrases that  you may  be able to use among friends or in a bar (for instance) but not with people you don't know or at school/work unless you want to scare them :P

¡Hasta las patas!  or ¡Hasta la madre! (in Mexico) are good examples. They're slang for  'completely' or 'utterly', and depend on context, e.g.

E.g.  

1. Estoy muy borracho. ¡Estoy hasta las patas! ("I'm really drunk. I'm totally wasted")

2. ¡Estoy enamorado hasta las patas! ("I'm utterly, immensely, and unimaginably in love much more that proper words can express")

3. ¡Estoy muy cansado! ¡Hasta las patas! ("It's been a hard days night, and I'm been working like a dog")

4. ¡El jefe me tiene hasta la patas! ("I hate that abusive little ***** we call boss")

5. He trabajado mucho. ¡Estoy hasta la madre! ---> I have worked a lot.  "I am up to the mother" (<--- literally,  the equivalent on English would be "I'm sick of it' or "'I'm F****** fed up!", whereas the proper phrase would be "I'm really tired"/"Estoy muy cansado")

6. Estoy muy borracho. ¡Me puse hasta la madre! (see phrase number 1.)

7. ¡Ya me tienes hasta la madre! (Really strong words for telling "You're really really annoying me")
