About American Music.

Recently, i'm doing a research on American music. Is there someone know that the differences between Chinese music and American music? Or just the unique of American music? Or any other things? I'm not quite familiar with that, so i need help. Not only the professional answers, any answer will be a big help!

I would appreciate it if you are willing to talk about this. THANKS A LOT! :D

Hmm, if you are looking for a uniquely American style, maybe you could look at Bluegrass music. This is a musical tradition that started in the rural Appalachian Mountains in the eastern US. It is based on accoustic string instruments like guitar, banjo, violin ("fiddle"), mandolin and bass. There is a lot of use of harmony, with the lead singer usually singing in a plaintive, high-pitch. While there are professional Bluegrass groups, a lot of performers are people with day jobs who perform on weekends in bars and churches. As far as I know, there are no Bluegrass performers in any other country.

  Also Zoey, if you want to track the influences, it might be easier to do if you follow the popular cultural influences as they occur in the context of Martial Arts, such as Japanese Aikido, Ju-Jitus, and Karate and Kendo

Then you can observe the influences cross culturally as they occurred in the popularity of the Chinese Martial Arts which transmitted to the West throught the films of Bruce Lee First, and Jackie Chan second.

There are Three strong Asian Influences seen in every American Cities.

(A)   Food   (B)  Martial Arts  (C)  Acupuncture.

      In addition, musically, you can research the Walt Disney Film "Fantasia" (1940)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0032455/     ;

     which shows in its "Mushroom Dance" a Chinese characterization in accordance with the music.

   If you can see the film, "The Sand Pebbles" it may help you to understand the cross cultural influences.

   Zoey:

You can begin by understanding the influence of American Popular Music, the music of Sythesizers and American Folk Music and Folk instruments upon other Asian Cultures, and particular as it is demonstrated in the Soundtrack of the Movie, "Saumrai Fiction".

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0170544/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1;

  The Soundtrack composed by http://www.hotei.com/ ; Tomayasu Hotei shows the clear cross-cultural fertilization which becomes artistically profound and rich.

   Beyond that, you can see the cross cultural fertilization in the performances of Luna Gaygeum, wherein she plays popular American Rock Compositions on a classial Asian Instrument.

   I am always excited to see Luna Gayageum play "Voodoo Child" (Voodoo Child) on her instrument.

She is a woman of tremendous power which emanates from her soul as she performs.

  Here is Luma Gayageum's performance of a great American blues piece composed originally by Stevie Ray Vaughan: "Lenny"
