イカリス
"-ら"や"-ば"

I was wondering about the endings -ら and -ば, signifying "if", if I am not much mistaken (no pun intended). For example:
気づいたら - "if you notice" according to Google Translate, however, I am quite sure it can also mean "if you realise (as in "if you make real")".
And there are others ending with -ば, too.
So what are the rule(s), so to say, that govern this? Examples, please? : )

I tried answering you in another thread; however, my parenthesis could not be sent. I added parenthesis in order to add the kana reading for the kanji to help other beginner students such as me.

Italki would be much better if they allow us to edit what we have written, even though for just a couple of minutes after sending. Another idea is that Italk could make available a link to preview what we have already typed in order to detect any mistake.
