Hello, I am a non-native English teacher and I have to make a report on another teacher's class. That's the result. I wonder if you could take a look at it, please. The teacher paired up the students by doing an interesting activity: each student got sentences halves and they had to find their correct ones to make full sentences. The students were up and walked around the class. That was a very dynamic activity. The teacher always times the activities so as to have the control of the duration of the work done in the classroom. That said, his time management is clearly optimal. The teacher knows the crosscheck technique and uses it properly. Crosschecking makes the students talk and practice more. That increases the students speaking time, which is the main objective of this course. Whenever a student makes a mistake, the instructor corrects the students by asking the whole class to repeat in chorus the mispronounced word. So as to not make the student feels embarrassed in front of class, he could get the repetition only a few minutes later, after some other activities take place. This way, the student won't feel that he/she was corrected on the spot and won't hesitate to speak again next time. Teacher should use words/phrases other them "ok?" to make sure students understand his instructions/ explanations. Some other words/phrases he could use are: "Do you understand?”, “So far so good?”, “all right?”, “Any questions?, “good?”, “is that clear?” The teacher uses many games in class, such as tic tac toe. That makes the class more enjoyable. Of course, all the games are done with the purpose of making the students use the targeted topic of the lesson. The instructor should make all the students participate, so when he sees some students that are not speaking so much or not so involved in the activity, he must do his best to bring that student to class. This way, everyone will notice that they have to focus on the class and will get the most of it.
