"Welcome bonus" here means? Thanks.
We had wanted to let him know that no matter how difficult things got in the world, there would always be people who cared about him. We ended up reminding ourselves instead. For Jimmy, the love with which we sang was as welcome bonus, but mostly he had just wanted to see everyone elsehappy again.

bonus = something extra
welcome = (you're welcome)
He gets a bonus and feels: "you're welcome".
You see, Jimmy was glad to see everyone happy. The singing was a kind of "bonus", to which he would reply: "You're welcome." So it was a welcome bonus.
