Yes Sarah, you are right they are synonyms. Both of them can be used while introducing a statement that makes the main statement in a sentence seem surprising " Although/though" Barcelona played well, they lost the game OR Barcelona lost the game, although/though they played well.
However, "Though" is used more in spoken than in written English. It can also be used at the end of
a sentence which makes the previous statement less important. For example, Barcelona lost. It was a good game though. You can also use even though.
Few more examples:
1. Have you ever been to Australia? No I did like to go though.
2. I felt she was wrong, although I didn't say so at the time.
3. Even though you dislike chemistry, you should try to concentrate.
4.Although Peter has a car, he doesn't often drive.
5. I liked the shirt. I decided not to buy, though.
