Can I just be blunt please? Please don't be upset, you have asked for a native person's honest opinion. "Mavis" is an old woman's name. I think you could choose from a list of names that were much more modern, like; Vikki; Michelle; Christine; Rianne; Susan; Deb; Catherine; Claire. The only Mavis I know of, is Mavis Staples who is a singer, but she's about 70 now :) Believe me, Mavis isn't a good name from the point of view of an English person. Asian people always choose the worst names - Barry, Colin, Mavis! Vivian (sorry Vivian!). I've even seen comedians making jokes about this, "fact" observation, chance, whatever. But what a good question, and what an interesting point that you have made.

I do not know if you will like my opinions... Bowie is a super cool name. It is the name of a famous man, but this man sometimes is very feminine. He is one of the few people that have made gender role issues cool with the main stream public. Anyway, Mavis is out of fashion. So what. If you like it - that is what counts. I think being named after a bird is cool. http://www.chicago-bird-store.com/bird_names http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D67kmFzSh_o

Mavis thinks it's fashionable. But nobody else does.

Thanks a lot for Craig ! ! ! The point why I ask this question beause a friend from Canada wanted a Chinese name and named herself "银凤",but I think that name is out in china though the name has a great beautiful meaning. So I told her to change her name but she standed her opinion lol ~ I think Karen is the name much suitable for me ! Thanks Craig again ! ! !
