Hacer falta means to miss something. Me haces falta = I miss you. Me hace falta mi padre = I miss my father.

"Hace falta" translates to "needless" so I would assume it means "heedless to say." i.e.: "Needless to say, the sky is blue" or "No hace falta, el cielo es azul." I am just a beginner in Spanish myself, so please take my answer with a grain of salt. :-)

It depends it can be 1. Something is missing and we need it. Hace falta una pieza de rompecabezas. (We need a piece of the puzzle) 2. We need more of something: Hace falta papel. (We need more water) In general, it means "needing".

The most common use is with an indirect object pronoun, meaning simply "to need:" me hace falta un lápiz. I need a pencil. Me hace falta usar tu carro. I need to use your car. Me hace falta ir al médico. I need to go to the doctor. Me hace falta uno más. I just need one more. Pregúntale a Mamá qué le hace falta. Ask Mom what she needs. No le hace falta nada. He has everything he needs.
