The fridge works ... the fridge works or a fridge works which of two sentences is correct?

The fridge works. Since we have to know which fridge it is to have any meaning, we use the definite article 'the'. "A fridge works" has no meaning by itself. I would have to ask which one. You could say: "A fridge works by heat exchage." "A fridge" in this case means "any fridge".
