Should I swim in Brisbane river? Is the water quality is good enough for human to swim? I would like to ask someone who is familiar with the ecology situation around the Brisbane River? I heard a lot about pesticides dumped into it, so is it safe to swim? And what about shark attacks? ))

Hi Anton, People used to swim in the Brisbane river, but that was many many years ago. No-one swims in it now. As Michael said, there are bull sharks. The other problem is that it's a silty mud-brown colour due to past dredging up river. Also, there are seasonal swarms of jellyfish from Moreton Bay which take over the river. You could enjoy the river by taking the speedy Citycats, or if you're a little more adventurous, check out what is offered at the Riverlife centre: http://www.riverlife.com.au/2013/index.html There's also the artificial beach at Southbank, where you can paddle and sunbathe with a view of the CBD skyline. :)

Don't swim in the Brisbane River. Coliform bacteria and bull sharks.
