Descriptive..a piece of writing that is describing something to their audience, this type of writing is informative. Use of truth, and sensory are imperative.
Narrative..a piece of writing that is told from a first person point of view (as if you are personally telling the story) this type of writing is usually entertaining. Use of perspective, imagination will be used here.
Exposition (or informative)..a piece of writing that is written to inform the audience of something, usually something that is currently happening.
Argumentative (persuasive)..a piece of writing that tells a lopsided argument, making the authors opinion seem like the ideal opinion and the opposing side seem irrelevant and illogical.
Here is a website that goes in to more detail about each type of writing and a list of examples: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Expository_writing
I hope this helps!!
