among,within,across,throughout ,between
Do you have any reference sentences for these words? They are similar so I can see how they could be unclear. Here are some examples and you can ask if you need more. Good luck with your studies!
Among
Among is used to compare things.
ex.
Among all the sixth graders she is the fastest runner.
The berry bush is hidden among the trees.
- comparing one thing in a group to the rest. So in the first example we are comparing the fast runner to the other sixth graders. That runner is a part of the group; sixth graders. Among them she is the fastest.
Within
just means something inside of something else. Usually refers to something that is inside or indoors
ex
The treasure is hidden within a cave.
Across
The dictionary examples are good for this one.
expressing movement over a place or region.
"I ran across the street"
expressing position or orientation.
"they lived across the street from one another"
Throughout
also went to the dictionary for this one
in every part of (a place or object).
"it had consequences throughout Europe" (meaning every place in Europe was effected"
from beginning to end of (an event or period of time).
"She liked to sing throughout her day" (meaning singing multiple times during the day)
between
the space or time between two separate items or events.
ex.
The cat is sitting between Mark and Richard.
I will go shopping between breakfast and lunch.
