It's good to hear from you** And yes, they are both good to show appreciation and manners.

"It's good to hear from you" would be correct. To be even more polite you would also follow with: "I hope I am not causing you any inconvenience," "Thank you very much" or a simple "thank you" would be used at the end of the phone call. Yes, it is very good to show appreciation and manners, many people will appreciate it because you made the effort to say those things.

Hear is used there but your grammar is a bit off still. I'd say something like it's good to hear from you. As to if it's good for being polite and showing appreciation I'd say yes. When someone says that it was good hearing from them it implies that they really enjoyed the conversation. It's nice to hear from someone else but don't just say it because you think it's expected of you, save it for when you really enjoyed the conversation. On top of that you'd only use the phrase when someone else calls you. If you're the one who called them then I'd use talk to instead of hear from. So the phrase would be it was nice talking to you or it was nice to talk to you. Hope that helps.
