Opposite of "relax"
What is the word opposite to "relax", if I'm talking about one's muscles? Is "strain" a correct word to use here?
Thanks for your help!

The opposite of relaxed muscles is 'tensed' muscles. This means that your muscles are: tense (tight/stiff)

Hi Olga,
I teach ballet to adults part-time, and sometimes I tell them to "engage" certain muscles that I want them to focus on using. I hope that helps!

'Strain' suggests damage.
'Tense' is the opposite of relax. You tense your muscles.

You could also say your muscles are tense. Tension is an antonym for relaxation in this context.
