coat rack: The top picture is what I think a typical coat rack looks like: http://www.houzz.com/wood-coat-rack
However, some people apparently call something else a "coat rack" or "hall stand": http://www.123rf.com/photo_2371347_vintage-wooden-coat-rack-or-hall-stand-isolated-on-white.html
hall tree: I had never heard this term before, so I googled; and this is what I found: http://www.houzz.com/photos/hall-trees The page says that hall trees are also known as coat racks or stands. It may be that coat racks, hall trees, and hall stands -- like people -- come in different shapes and sizes.
There are also hat racks, which sometimes look like coat racks! http://www.123rf.com/stock-photo/hat_rack.html
Which reminds me of a joke: Two hats were hanging on a hat rack. One hat said to the other, "I'll stay here. You go on ahead."
