Can I say “my compositions always excelled in class”? I am wondering whether this sentence"my compositions always excelled in class" is right. Can I use "compositions" as a subject before the word "excel"? If not, how can I express this in a right way? thank you!

You could, but it sounds as if your compositions were taking the class, not you. It would bebetter to say I always received excellent grades(US English)/marks(British English) on my compositions.
