could anyone tell me what's the meaning of "should" in the sentense below. "should" in " Should your inquiry be urgend, please contact me" I know it is about subjunctive mood, but i don't understand why use "should", why don't use "if",shouldn't it be"if your unquiry is urgend, pls..."? Thank you.

"Should your enquiry be urgent" = "If your enquiry is urgent". The first is more formal. Though it is useful to recognise this use of "should", you never need to use it to express your meaning, even if you are writing professionally. "If" sentences are always good enough. I used this form of "should" when I worked as a lawyer in order to sound more professional and formal, but it was never necessary.
