"tap away" What exactly do you do when you "tap away a pain with a tool or a kind of medicine"? What does "tap away" mean here? Thank you in advance.

Do you have the sentence where you found this phrase? Your paraphrase sounds a little strange. You can tap away at something, the way a sculptor works on a block of stone to create a statue: tap tap tap, and the debris falls away. Or, if you tap something away, you hit it lightly (tap!) and it moves away. I can't think of many examples where this would make sense, unless you were playing billiards or something.
