He has never been to NewYork. He has never gone to the movies. Here are two sentences. He has never been to New York. He has never gone to the movies. Why do we use "been" not "gone" in the first sentence?

I might be wrong, but the second sentence doesn't sound right. We would say "he has never been to the movies"
