is town hall in french "hotel de ville" or Mairie, I thought it was the first but have been told it the 2nd
trying to learn french and thought I had learnt the french for town hall but have seen the word "marie" used for town hall in french.

Pour moi, je considère que c est la même chose, à une différence près :
- hotel de ville, c est utilisé pour une grande ville
- mairie, pour une plus petite
On peut toujours dire "mairie" dans les deux cas si on a envie...ce n est pas une erreur
