"stare" has different meanings. 1.stay- being in a place 2. It's used in sentences like: how are you? I'm fine. Come STAI? STO bene. 3. you look good with that dress! STAI bene con quel vestito "essere" and "stare" can have a similar meaning of estar (being in a place), but there are a few differences.. stare is used when something or someone is in a place usually: I sabato sera sto a casa - di solito-, It also means that you stay in a place for long time: I don't have my own place, so I stay in a hotel, non ho una casa ora, perciò sto in hotel.
