Every time I try to type this verb, it won't put the 'g' letter in the first syllable. All I can type is 일그다 and not 읽다.
How can I type this correctly??

If you use a computer, '일' + 'shiftㄱ'. (ㅇ + ㅣ + ㄹ + 'shiftㄱ' )

How are you trying to type it? I've never experienced such a problem. The keyboard equivalent should be "dlfrek".

Are you using the Korean IPA on your computer? A mobile-phone keyboard?

I'm not familiar with that keyboard, but for me I just type "dlfrek" like Peter said. Don't hit the key for ㅡ after ㄱ. Just type the letters on after another, ㄷ immediately after ㄱ.
