Is there any difference between "lit " and "lighted"? He put a similar tree, decorated with lighted candles, in his home. Can "lighted " be replaced by "lit " in this case? Whats the difference between the two words? When can they be used interchangeably? Thanks a lot!

Often, they're interchangeable, as in your example. When there is a difference, "lighted" refers to light (to see); and "lit," to (burning) fire.
