It depends really upon whether you are inside the covers. If covered, you are in bed. If not, you are on the bed.

Actually you could say both and still be correct/make sense. However, "I sat on my bed" is used more.

You sat on the bed. This one is right. 你坐在bed上。 in是 在什么里 I sat in the car.
