Hi. So, in brazilian portuguese the word "assegurar" is not so common in daily use. It is very formal.
As the guys before me said, you can use the verb "confirmar" or the expression "ter certeza que". This second one is more literal, since "sure" is an equivalent form of "certeza". But the first is more often used in this case.
So, I could say... Eu queria confirmar se você entendeu. ;)
