boundary vs threshold What is the difference between "boundary" and "threshold" here? Both place and art might be said not to contain – and be contained by – boundaries, then, but rather an innumerable series of thresholds, which extend far beyond the physical limits of either the site or the art object.

It's hard to know for sure what writers of such abstract prose are really trying to express. However, I'd guess here that he considers a "boundary" as a fixed limit beyond which one cannot go. However, a "threshold" appears first as a boundary and then once approached, you realise that it is only the limit of one layer of understanding while, at the same time, it acts as the doorway to the next, deeper layer.
