Rabbit is the correct name for the animal. Bunny is more informal. It is commonly used for young rabbits or it may be the word children use for "rabbit." A hare is a different species very similar to a rabbit but with longer ears. Rabbits can be wild or kept as pets where as hares are generally only in the wild.
