The differences between 'Did you go anywhere', 'Did you go somewhere?' and 'Where did you go?'
Here are three questions to ask somebody where they went for holiday, and I wonder what the differences are.
- Did you go anywhere?
- Did you go somewhere?
- Where did you go?
I presume that the speaker asks the first question when they do not know whether the listener went away, that the second question is used when the speaker assumes that the listener did, and that the third question indicates that the speaker actually knows that the listener did.
I would like to know about natural expressions, so I would appreciate it if you would tell me any information about them.
