Too bad if I make a joke at the IELTS speaking? I was practicing the speaking part of IELTS with my wife and I asked the following question: What do you find most interesting about your course? And so she answered "the bar in front of my university"... and so after she said it was just a joke and did the correct answer. What do you think it would have happened if she had said this to the examiner?

I think that exams like IELTS require you to speak in a more formal way... But I guess that if she made such a joke it wouldn't be a problem as long as she explains later on, in "formal English", what or why she meant it... Actually I think making a joke (nothing disrespectful though) can even demonstrate the ability you have with the language - again: as long as it makes sense or if one says "I'm joking" after the joke and then says something else more seriously.

Nothing. They would have laughed, that's all.

I think she shouldn't take that risk. Although, it's not a big problem. I guess. The examiner just want to examine your pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary.
