In french aren't last family names referred to in singular forms? Like 'Les DuPonts est gentil.' Or Le DuPont sont gentils??? I forget which way.

On dit "les" parcequ'il y a plus d'une personne dans la famille, mais on ne met pas de "s" au nom de famille. --> leS Dupont sont gentils.

Yes they are referred to in singular forms but still take a plural verb. Thus 'Les Du Pont sont gentils'.
