wood ear or agaric?

Are you talking fungi? I suspect agaric is a generic word referring to many different fungi, but that is not my area, so I could be wrong. Wood ear, or tree ear, I recognise as a fungi used in Chinese cooking. I suspect it is basically unknown otherwise.
