Both of these link closely and can be seen differently to each other. Social networking is when you connect with others and social media is how it uses different forms of media to communicate through a social network. e.g. the videos, articles and pictures you would see through networking sites.

Also, "social networking" doesn't have to be online. Its apparently a sociology term from the 30s that was popularized in the 80s. Its just who you know. A network is a bunch of things that are connected. Further, socialites will talk about "networking" which means having lunch with a lot of different people and keeping in touch with people who might help them professionally.

At first, I would like to apologize for my bad English. It's not my native language, but I'd like to help you trying to answer this question above. Social Media is a way to transmitic, or share information with a broad audience. Everyone has the opportunity to create, use and distribute, at least you need to be connect in an internet (ISP-Internet Service Provider). Meanwhile, social networking is an act of engagement. If we share the same interests or like-mind we together can join on social networking sites and build relationship. Social Media is a father while Social network is a son (A good son) :)
