IRENE
Question about a line of a sitcom I'm watching a sitcom called The Golden Girls. When Dorothy is going out with a new man, Rose asked:"Oh, who is he, Dorothy?" "Oh, his name is Glen O'Brien." "Where'd you meet him?" Sophia said:"His name is O'Brien. Two to one, she met him at a gin mill." Why does Sophia say that?

Ha ha. O'Brien is an Irish name. There is a stereotype about Irish people that they cannot resist alcohol (which is what would be served at the gin mill)
