The words "just" and "only" are synonymous?

It depends on the context. If someone wrote, "I'm just a simple man" or "I'm only a simple man" those two sentences would have essentially the same meaning. But, if someone wrote, "I'm the only man" and "I'm the just man," in the meaning would the different. The first sentence indicates that the writer is one man (perhaps in a group of women or children), the second suggests that the writer is trustworthy and honest.
