How to say "I speak some Spanish..." in Spanish :-)
Hi,
I'm learning Spanish and when people ask if I can speak it I would like to answer "I speak some Spanish".
Would "Puedo hablar algo de Espanol" be correct?
I don't want to say "Un poco de Espanol" because people assume I speak none, when I'm actually learning and am keen to practice.
I often follow up with "Lo estoy aprendiendo y prefiero hablar en Espanol" but it would be nice to know if "algo de Espanol" is correct.
Gracias!

Hi Michele, you might find this little article helpful:

After reading it I started saying: "Me defiendo en español", meaning: "I get by".

Hi there, if I ask you 'hablas español', you could answer : 'sí, estoy aprendiendo ' that would indicate that you understand some of it and that you are into practising also. You are right, if you say 'hablo un poco de español' we'd probably asume that you can barely answer with a yes or no. But if you are engaging in any conversation the other person should tell how far you could get. If you are in a shop, don't boder lol

Hablo algo de español would be fine. You don't have to capitalize the language, just the country.
