What's 'a disciplined detachment ' means? Hey, Guys I'm working on my text about documentary film practice. I have question about the definition of the word 'a disciplined detachment' - But the observational mode limited the filmmaker to the present moment required a disciplined detachment from the events themselves. - This is exactly come from my text. Thanks

I think there needs to be some more of the text to make the context make sense here. A disciplined detachment would mean that you would detach oneself with emphasis on not breaking that detachment.

I think it is (emotional) detatchment. This is sometimes difficult, therefore it must be self-controlled or "disciplined". It is simply an intensifier in this sentence.
