How to use Hong Kong tele codes? When somebody enters Chinese characters using 4-digit codes, do you use space between the codes or after entering 4th digit the code immediately changes to a character and you don't have to enter space to start another code?

Hi, Alik I'm from HK and hope to be of help to you. I guess you are talking about the four-digit Chinese Commercial Codes for Chinese characters. They are shown on our ID cards. For example, if your name has three characters, then the codes will look like 1234 5678 9012. There is always a space between them.

Thanks Raymond. I was actually asking about the way of entering: whether the code changes to a character right away, but further questioning revealed that both codes and characters exist at the same time on one form.

No space. For example, if you want to dial a Beijing number, you enter "00861012345678", where 0086 is the code of China, 10 is the code of Beijing, 12345678 is the phone number. On some cellphones or devices, you enter +86 instead. If you want to dial a Hong Kong number, you enter 0085212345678, or + 85212345678, where 00852 or +852 is the code of Hong Kong, 12345678 is the phone number. Also, for the cell phone numbers in mainland China, you don't need the code of city, you only need to enter the code of china and the cellphone number.
