I think it might be about USA changing the law allowing gays/lezzies to serve openly in the army...instead the current "don't ask - don't tell" policy. http://edition.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/07/23/dontask.donttell/index.html In Finland LGBT people can register their relationship but that isn't exactly marriage. Well LGBT marriage is coming soon to Sweden (May 2009) and Finns always ape almost everything from Sweden with few years delay. In Finland they can't adopt kids together but they can serve in the police and army. Though in practice I wouldn't recommend person making big noise about his homosexuality in the army around here. There's lot of hidden homophobia. Though it's the same with women going into the army. You better be "one of the boys" because if you make big noise about your womanhood you will hear silent and not so silent "damn slut-murmurings" for the rest of your service. If you're good and never make any fucks up they most likely would tolerate your homosexuality but if they know that you're homosexual and you have made too much noise about it then you make some bigger fuck up for example by your clumsyness and then the whole unit gets punished you better take painkillers before the night... because in that case your homosexuality might be the thing which would break the camel's back and your army mates might come to beat you with socks full off all kinds of hard metallic objects. Well still the physically violence is really rare but the mental one really isn't. Not nice to spend the rest of the service with unit full of angry stares and the smell of fire and brimstone. Much easier for lesbian in the army. The guys have the urban legend that the majority of women doing the military service are lesbians. So they're not even surprised if you're lesbian.

miss, you should contextualize your questions, probably you are talking about your country but i can't be sure. just for your information, in my country, gay/lesbian can get married (between themselves), can adopt children, can go to army, be police officers, and politics. and since this is legal here the country doesn't seem to be any worse (or any better).
