Hi bean, I would rephrase the sentence as: "A pebble thrown into water causes ripples." I don't like Kameron's paraphrases. It's the water that ripples, not the pebble!

Each is more liberal a paraphrase than the previous. A pebble ripples when thrown into water. A pebble ripples. Pebbles ripple.
