"Mann" is the general term for a man. When used together with a possessive, such as: "mein Mann", "Susannes Mann" or "der Mann meiner Schwester", it means "husband". 
"Ehemann" is always "husband".
Expressions like "mein Mann" and "mein Ehemann" can be used interchangeably. The variant with "Ehemann" is more formal.

Same thing with "Frau" and "Ehefrau" for "woman" and "wife".
