Switch usually is a more specific exchange between two things whereas change is more general. You can change your mind but you can never switch your mind because there is nothing to exchange it with. You can change your shoes, any other pair is ok. If you are told to switch shoes by your coach it means exchange a bad pair for a better pair.

The word "change" is usually used to indicate a substitute or replacement. You can change your clothes. You can change the linen on your bed. To "switch" is usually used to explain a shift or more SUDDEN movement. For example, people "switch" gears when driving. People "switch" on the lights. Some other similar verbs would be "modify", "alter" "vary" and "transform". Hope this helps
