Is this correct?
Hi
Is it OK to say : sit down in an armchair? Or just : sit in an armchair?
I mean is it OK to say " down" there?
Thanks

To sit down usually means that you move from a standing position to a sitting position.
To sit can mean the same as the above, especially when referring to a.dog. Generally, though, when we say somebody sits or is sitting, they needn't move: they have already sat down.
