My preference would be to say - you must eat well to avoid illness. The second sentence is fine.

You must try to eat healthily to lower your chances of illness. (You can't guarantee health by eating well as other things like stress can make you sick) ..and you definitely shouldn't eat everything! (Do you know that vegans and cultures where people eat less meat and dairy are the thinnest and healthiest, with much less serious diseases?) :)
