Why do rich people in American series call "Mother" instead of "Mom"?
Is it because it sounds more high-class and educated to use full word like "Mother" instead of just colloquial "Mom" which are used by most middle class?
Father and Dad too.

My opinion: Using “mother” is a Hollywood stereotype that rich people are formal and uptight.

From a UK perspective the higher classes do have a stronger tendency to say "Mother" and "Father". This is very stereotyped in Films and Television series's. Whether they actually do or not in reality I do not know.
