The word 'sensation' has two meanings. One is physical feelings - I lost sensation in my finger tips. The other refers to widespread, excited interest in something. 'When Apple released its first I-phone, it created a sensation.' In this instance, the news of the little boy spread through the internet and reached a wide audience and created a high level of enthusiastic interest - hence, an 'internet sensation.'
