How to pronounce 잊지 마? I've heard 잊지 마 a lot. But when people say it looks like they are saying 잊치 마 or 이치 마 instead of 잊찌 마 or 이찌 마, it's the same thing with 있지만, because i learned that after that batchim the next consonant is stronger, like 먹다 that is 먹따, looks like this happens only with ㅈ. Someone can explain this to me please? Thanks!

잊지 마 is pronounced as 읻찌/이찌 마. However, because the second and subsequent syllables of a proper word is typically pronounced softer than the first syllable, 찌 might sound similar to 치, even though the only correct pronunciation is 찌. This type of hardening (making it tense, called 경음화) of a consonant due to interference results in the tensed pronunciation, like ㄲ, ㄸ, ㅃ, ㅆ, ㅉ, not the aspirated one ㅋ,ㅌ,ㅍ,ㅊ. The only time aspiration happens is when the consonant comes after a ㅎ, ㄶ, or ㅀ, as in 잃지 마 -> 일치 마, 닿다 -> 다타, 놓고 -> 노코, etc. This hardening most commonly happens when the ㄱ,ㄷ,and ㅂ group of consonants come in a sequence. When this happens, the first consonant degenerate to the representative sound of the group (ㄱ,ㄲ,ㅋ -> ㄱ; ㄷ,ㄸ,ㅌ,ㅅ,ㅆ,ㅈ,ㅉ,ㅊ -> ㄷ; ㅂ,ㅃ,ㅍ -> ㅂ), and the following consonant is pronounced tensed. There are other cases of consonant hardening as well. * ㄷ,ㅅ,ㅈ after ㄹ in a hanja(Chinese character) word: 절도 -> 절또, 물질 -> 물찔. * ㄱ, ㄷ, ㅂ, ㅅ, ㅈ at the start of a compound word: 산바람 -> 산빠람, 술잔 -> 술짠.
