I was tried to call you??? Hey guys, for business I have some websites in a uk hosting company, located in the uk, I am arguing via email with the assistance for some problems on the invoices, they just answered me: "I was tried to call you on your number but got busy". Now, I think no English native could write "I was tried to call you", right? so now I see why they don't understand me, I am so overcareful with my English when I write emails and now I got this answer, which make me feel hopeless.

I agree, a native English speaker would not say "I was tried to call you." A native English speaker also would not say "on your number" (it should be "at" your number) or "but got busy" (it should be "but the line was busy" or perhaps "but I got a busy signal." (If you say "I tried to call you but got busy," it means that I myself became busy with other things while I was trying to call you.) I hope you can get your problem resolved!

Hi Andrea, you definitely can't say "I was tried to call you." You can say "I tried to call you,"or even "I was trying to call you,"which you don't hear much. Hope that helps.

I agree with Gareth and Grey. You can say "I tried to call you" or "I was trying to call you."
