Do you say " keep it on the low key " to mean keep it secret ? And is it really common ?

Not keep it secret, but certainly don't advertise it or bring any attention to it.

I have never heard anyone say “keep it on the low key”.
“Let’s keep it low key.”

Rather than 'keep it on the low key' we would more commanly say 'keep it on the down low' which yes means to keep something a secert or just not talk about it with others.
